“Today’s technology-laden office is more efficient than ever!” says technology company
Office workers ‘twice as productive’ as in the 1970s, claims study
Developments in technology mean the average office worker is now almost twice as productive as their counterparts in the 1970s, a new study claims.
It is remembered as the era of the three day week, strikes and electricity shortages.
So it is perhaps not surprising that a study claims that the average worker is now almost twice productive than during the 1970s.
Our offices are better and more productive than ever, and we know exactly who to thank for that:
The research cites the development of technologies such as the mobile phone, email and business software for the change.
It calculates office worker productivity per hour is now 84 per cent more than it was forty years ago.
In terms of technology, it claims that its influence on worker productivity is now five times higher (480 per cent) than it was in the 1970s.
Clearly, it’s positive news all round, with this impartial study finding that the use of mobile phones and email has such a positive impact in our working lives. Or, it’s just another piece of PR:
The study was carried out by O2 Business and the Centre for Economics and Business Research.
So – O2, the mobile phone company, found that the use of mobile phones and related technology is a Good Thing. Got it.
